Bank Millennium partners-up with an international mathematical hackathon
On 17-22 March 2019 in Warsaw ESGI144 (European Study Group with Industry) will take place – an international event, which aims to develop economic applications of mathematics.
- Bank Millennium is focused on data science, hence mathematics is particularly dear to our hearts because it helps understand and implement changes in a complex world – Jarosław Hermann, Member of the Management Board of Bank Millennium, said. – Bank Millennium gives preference to people who understand and apply sciences. This is essential for our development as a digital bank - he added.
ESGI144 will be held in the PAN Mathematical Institute and will take the form of a mathematical marathon, while participants will be working on projects submitted by companies and institutions. The assignments come from a broad range of areas, starting from modelling social processes, through modelling business processes such as production and logistics, use of mathematics in finances or services broadly understood, to Big Data, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, blockchain or “data science”. Taking part in ESGI144 will also be mathematicians who come from the best institutions (e.g. Oxford and Cambridge) and often have decades of experience in solving problems of this type. Their skills will be supported by Polish mathematicians with hands-on experience.
The seven-day marathon will be preceded by an Oxford debate planned for 17 March about the growing role of mathematical sciences in the world around us. The debate will be attended by Jarosław Hermann, Member of the Management Board of Bank Millennium, as well as representatives of the scientific community (i.a. from Oxbridge), the economy and public administration.
- ESGI first of all represents rapprochement and dialogue of two opposing worlds - scientists and business. The mathematical hackathon formula, which involves eminent scientists as well as representatives of companies and organisations, allows real solutions of actual problems to be developed quickly and effectively. This is real science, which directly leads to progress and development – Kamil Kulesza Ph. D., Chairman of ESGI144 in the Mathematical Institute of Polish Academy of Sciences, said.
Bank Millennium supports initiatives, which are conducive to relationships and improvement of customer service quality. It is launching a number of innovative solutions. In 2018 the Bank continued development of electronic and mobile banking, thus providing solutions, which are innovative on the Polish market. Customer centricity and proper care for the highest quality customer experience are the key to all changes introduced by the Bank - carefully listening to customers, observing their preferences and testing services with them in the banking User-Experience Lab. New solutions were based upon state-of-the-art technologies and offered more convenient ways of using internet banking and the app.
