Already more than 200,000 Bank Millennium customers use BLIK contactless payments

Bank Millennium was the first on the market to start providing BLIK contactless payments in July last year. Within a few months, the new solution gradually gained the popularity of customers and now the bank can boast of almost 216,000 users of this form of payment. They have already completed almost 4.3 million transactions worth over 166 mln PLN.

- We were the first on the market to introduce BLIK contactless payments. We can see that this solution has been very well received on the market and arouses great interest among customers. BLIK contactless payments may be used by all users of our application who have devices with Android operating system and NFC. We hope that thanks to such solutions, paying by phone will become a permanent part of our everyday life – says Halina Karpińska, Director of the Electronic Banking Department at Bank Millennium.

BLIK contactless allows you to pay for purchases in stationary stores just like with payment cards. To start using the payments, all you need is a simple, one-time activation in the banking application. It does not require linking-up a payment card. After activation in the service settings, the customer can change the payment source to a non-default current account, including a credit card account. When paying you do not have to log on to the app, it is also not necessary to even have a connection with the Internet or the mobile network. The service is available for devices with Android operating platform and supporting NFC (Near Field Communication).

Recently, the bank has introduced an improvement for customers who authorise contactless payments with BLIK using a PIN to the application. PIN authorisation is now required if the client:

  • performs the first transaction after enabling this authorisation method
  • makes a single payment of over 100 PLN,
  • will exceed the amount of 600 PLN, making several smaller transactions (since the last use of the PIN).

Thanks to this, customers who authorise such transactions with a PIN can do it more conveniently and efficiently than before – all you have to do is unlock the phone and put it to the terminal.

In recent months, other BLIK services have also enjoyed record popularity. 1.2 million users of the Bank Millennium mobile application have used it at least once since the beginning of this year. In the 1st quarter of 2022 alone, they completed over 28.6 million BLIK transactions. The number of BLIK transfers to phone number ordered by Bank Millennium users increased by 107% compared to the same period last year.

As part of its services, BLIK offers convenient payments online and traditionally, transfers to a telephone number, issuing electronic cheques as well as deposits and withdrawals from ATMs without the need to use a payment card.
