The beautiful side of banking

Among bank employees are predominantly female. Men are in the majority in a few IT-related departments. Statistically, banks also have slightly more women among their customers. On Women's Day, Bank Millennium looks at statistics to discover the beautiful side of banking.

Women not only predominate among people employed in banks, but they are also more satisfied with banking services. In their case the consumer loyalty index (NPS - net promoter score) indicates 64%, while for men 45% was recorded. On Women's Day, Bank Millennium analysed a number of various data to check how much influence women play in the financial industry. We also analysed spending in terms of gender. Due to the social role they often play, women spend more than men on children (+125%), education (+53%), gifts (+21%), health (+61%), books and magazines (+41%) and theatre and cinema tickets (+31%). They spend less money in fast-food establishments (-26%) and, what is particularly worth emphasizing, they also spend much less on gambling (lotteries, betting, etc.) (-82%). For many, it will probably come as no surprise that women buy clothes and cosmetics much more often than men.

A female Bank Millennium customer is on average 44 years old. She has maintained a relationship with the bank for 9 years. She uses four banking services and products. She does not visit a bank branch very often (on average 3 times a year), but logs in to electronic banking on average once a day. Women are eager to reach for new financial solutions, e.g. transfer to a phone, which they use 22% more often than men do.

“Numbers don't lie! Ladies spend money in a careful and prudent way. They think about home, family, future, health and smart entertainment. At Bank Millennium, we believe that strength, wisdom, empathy, creativity, determination and passion they show, drive them to achieve success. Women's Day is a great opportunity to emphasize the importance of women in the team. Diversity and inclusivity play an important role on the path of development and innovation,” – declares Iwona Jarzębska at Bank Millennium.

The statistics on employment in banking are also interesting. In 2024, almost 4.5 thousand women worked in the Bank Millennium Group, nearly twice as many as men. In the entire sector, this percentage is 67%2. A report by the Polish Bank Association shows that in 2022, the average age of women employed in the banking sector was 42 years. Women predominate in human resource management, retail banking, lending and operations. On the other hand, a particularly high percentage of male employees can be recorded in departments dealing with cybersecurity, IT and capital market. Among the units with the most balanced employment are administration, legal, risk management and bank security experts.
