Update the browserThe Bank Millennium Foundation during the Congress addressed important topic of accessibility of economic education for children with disabilities.
The Foundation not only runs its own financial education programme Financial ABCs addressed to children, educators and parents, but also provides educational materials and organises educational workshops aimed at improving the quality of education in this area. As part of the Financial ABCs programme, the Bank Millennium Foundation has carried out almost 4 thousand educational workshops in kindergartens across Poland during 10 years, attended by close to 100 thousand children. To this day, the programme is highly recognised, is continued, providing valuable knowledge and shaping skills related to financial management.
The Bank Millennium Foundation is working on a comprehensive adaptation of the Financial ABCs programme, preparation and launch of an economic education programme for children with disabilities and their guardians. Accessibility to banking services is perceived in Bank Millennium very broadly - not only as informational, technological or organisational solutions, but also through free access to economic knowledge for everyone.
- Thanks to consultations with experts in special education, consultations with parents and guardians of children with disabilities, our workshops, as well as the entire "Financial ABCs" programme, will be available to everyone. The programme of workshops conducted in kindergartens will be expanded to include a scenario for various types of disabilities and a scenario for children functioning below the age intellectual norm. For years, the Bank Millennium Foundation has been providing any persons interested with online: educational films for children and guidance materials for parents on how to teach their children financial management. This essential element of the programme will also be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. The video materials will be translated into sign language - for deaf people, and a transcription for the blind will be added to the video production. - Iwona Jarzębska, Chairwoman of the Bank Millennium Foundation
The Bank Millennium Foundation has become a partner of this year's edition of the Economic Education Congress. The Foundation's involvement in the Congress is part of a broader strategy to support valuable educational initiatives. The Economic Education Congress is a forum that enables discussion between various communities, exchange of experiences and establishing cooperation in the field of economic education. During this year's edition of the Economic Education Congress 2025, the Chairwoman of the Bank Millennium Foundation, Iwona Jarzębska, took part in the debate "Saving - economic education evergreen, but does it still mean the same thing?".
- At Bank Millennium, we want to understand the financial habits of Poles as best as possible. The results of the next edition of the "Finances of Poles" survey, commissioned by Bank Millennium in 2024, show that our financial situation is improving and we are approaching the accumulation of savings with increasing attention. The number of respondents who have no savings at all has fallen from 26 percent in 2022 to 19 percent in 2024. Every third respondent claims that they save regularly, and as many as 43% save when they have the opportunity. The amount of savings is also growing. Every third respondent declares that they have the so-called financial safety cushion, i.e. more savings than the equivalent of half a year's salary. 38% of respondents also admitted that they had increased the amount of their savings in the 6 months preceding the survey and this was an increase of 8 percentage points compared to 2023 - emphasised Iwona Jarzębska.
The Bank Millennium Foundation has been actively supporting educational initiatives for years, including teaching the youngest children how to save. Due to the awareness of the need to educate children with disabilities, the concept of accessibility of financial education was also emphasised in the speech.
- Economic education is extremely important, and access to it should be free for everyone. We were one of the first organisations to fill a certain gap and include the youngest children in our programme. We were convinced that attitudes should be taught from an early age. Currently, the Foundation, in cooperation with a non-governmental organisation, is working on the development of the concept of "accessibility" of financial education for children with disabilities and their guardians. We plan to pay special attention to adapting the programme, the materials used in the workshops, which the Foundation makes available on the Internet, in order to achieve complete inclusivity of the Financial ABCs. - summed up Iwona Jarzębska.
The flagship programme of the Bank Millennium Foundation, Financial ABCs, is part of the financial education strategy adopted by the Polish government in 2024 – the year of Economic Education.
