10th Gdańsk Music Festival begins

On 31 March the anniversary edition will begin of Gdańsk Music Festival – a great feast of music with Bank Millennium as the main sponsor.

During the nine days of the festival eleven concerts with be given with participation of leading soloists from all over the world, a choir and orchestras. This year the function of Resident Artist will be performed by Mischa Maisky – one of the world’s greatest cellists. The virtuoso will be the soloist at the opening concert, which will be led by the famous violinist, teacher and conductor in one ― Maxim Vengerow.

Because of the Resident Artist the 2017 Gdańsk Music Festival will be dominated by string instruments presented in diverse configurations, which in a natural way will make reference to the 15th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań. The festival will also not be short of historical instruments. One of the world’s most famous Baroque violinists ― Giuliano Carmignola. will make his appearance. The final concert under the patronage of Bank Millennium, will feature a performance of St John Passion J.S. Bach with participation of the renowned Orchestra of the 18th Century*.

For more than 25 years Bank Millennium has been firmly embedded in the world of culture as patron and sponsor of music, film and theatrical events. Since 5 years we have been with the Gdańsk Music Festival. What makes this project special is first of all the quality, which it has displayed non-stop since its first edition. This is why the list of sponsors could not make do without Bank Millennium. The project also derives its strength from diversity not only in terms of repertoire, but also the venues, where people meet classical music. The Festival will continue till 8 April 2017 and concerts will be staged i.a. in Polska Filharmonia Bałtycka, Akademia Muzyczna in Gdańsk, Dwór Artusa or Centrum św. Jana in Gdańsk.
